Women Leaders in the workplace often face diverse challenges one of which is that other leaders, may not believe in their ability to perform.
Recently, I watched the Netflix movie ‘Running Point’ and was struck by the relatability of the main character, Isla Gordon, played by Kate Hudson.
When women are assigned new tasks or projects, there are often underlying expectations that they will not succeed. This is known as the “Set-Up-to-Fail” Syndrome, a subset of the “Glass Cliff” effect ( being promoted to leadership positions during crises, setting them up for failure). This syndrome is fueled by biases, stereotypes, and lack of confidence in women’s abilities.
As we celebrate women this month, let us be conscious of any bias we may have and encourage women around us to keep excelling.
Together, we can build a better world!
