Performance Appraisal
The often told bible story of Cain and Abel can be found in Genesis Chapter 4.
‘And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?
The Lord had given Cain a REMEDY to earn His respect and restore their relationship.
‘Just do better with your work!’…
As Managers of men and resources how often do we say this to our team? As team members , how often do we hear this ?
Appraisal is part of every organization’s performance management. This is done frequently to ensure we can course correct in good time to keep the ship in its right direction and we achieve our goals and meet our numerical targets.
Modern Methods of appraisal include;
1. 360-degree Feedback: Employees receive feedback from supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
2. Self-Assessment: Employees evaluate their performance and set goals.
3. Behavioral Anchored Rating Scales (BARS): Employees are rated based on specific behaviors and performance criteria.
4. Management by Objectives (MBO): Employees set specific, measurable goals with their supervisors.
5. Continuous Feedback: Regular, informal feedback is provided to employees throughout the year.
Where we choose not to take appraisal seriously we may jeopardize not just our careers but the careers of others.
Let’s do better!
